Carmichael is far enough out that I’ll be straight with you: it’s not a five-minute trip to my office on Alhambra Blvd. It’s more like a 20-minute drive down Fair Oaks Blvd or Arden Way, depending on where in Carmichael you’re starting from. So for a lot of Carmichael clients, we either make the drive worth it, or we meet remotely — both are genuinely on the table.
Walk-and-Talk sessions near Ancil Hoffman Park
Carmichael has some of the best walking terrain in the whole region — Ancil Hoffman Park’s 400 acres of old oaks along the American River, the Effie Yeaw Nature Center trails, and the paved Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail running right through town. If you’re coming in for an in-person session and would rather walk than sit in a chair, Carmichael is genuinely one of the better settings in the Sacramento area to do Walk-and-Talk therapy — we can meet at a Parkway access point near you instead of my office, if that works better logistically.
Who I work with
Individuals, couples, families, and teens, with a real focus on adolescent boys and men — with or without a partner. I also work specifically with teachers through “Teacher Therapy.” Given the drive, a lot of my Carmichael clients end up doing a mix: an occasional in-person or Walk-and-Talk session, with remote video sessions filling in the gaps — same me, same approach, no drive required.
Why I do this the way I do it
At 17 I survived a near-fatal car accident and came out with PTSD I didn’t recognize at the time. My mom got me into therapy — I hated it, thought it was pointless, and quit. It took another five years and a genuinely rough stretch before I gave it another shot, and that time it worked, mostly because the therapist actually engaged with me instead of sitting there nodding. That shaped how I practice now: I ask real questions, I jump in, and I give real feedback instead of playing it clinically neutral. If you’ve got a teenager who thinks therapy is dumb, I get it — I thought so too. Bring them anyway.
